What?! NE MPLS in the NY Times!
April 25th, 2010
Right, so this caught me by surprise! Local NY Times journalist, Michael Tortorello, has written a few articles as of late about the Minneapolis scene. We undoubtedly do have a scene here worth writing about, yet I tend to think of Mpls as a small-time, under-the-radar type of city. It may be time to change my frame of mind. More than once, I've had Manhattanites walk into Danish Teak Classics and tell me that Minneapolis has a better music scene than NYC. The latest article highlights our quaint NE neighborhood and the delicacies to be had at some of the newer restaurants to pop up, like The Anchor the Northeast Social. Though its an honor to be written up in the venerated New York Times, I feel a bit of resentment and apprehension. Recognition like this could be great for local businesses, but I'd hate to see NE subjected to the gentrification that more often than not robs neighborhoods of their local character. What do you think?
